Necessary Church: It’s Where We’re Finally Free

What if the biggest obstacle keeping you from church is actually the biggest opportunity? We shy away from the local church because we love our freedom. But if freedom is what you’re after, then the church is the place to be. To see why people’s number one strike against the church is one of the greatest things going for it, you need to (1) hear a story, (2) run a science experiment, and (3) see a picture. This is the first of a six-episode series on the local church.

PP150 The Other Half of Freedom

The way our culture prizes freedom gives us a huge opportunity to tell others of the freedom available in Jesus Christ. Unlike modern concepts of freedom, the freedom Jesus offers is not just freedom from, but freedom for. Only in the Lord Jesus can we enjoy both halves of freedom. As John Stott says in this week’s reading, “I have found Jesus Christ to be the key to freedom.”

Scriptures Referenced: Luke 4:18-19; Exo; John 8:31-36; Mark 5:1-20, 8:34

PP056 My Chains Are Gone, I’ve Been Redeemed

Everyone loves a story of sweet redemption, but there is no redemption story like that of the Christian gospel. The helpless are rescued. The bankrupt have their debt paid. Slaves are set free. Gospel freedom is the best kind of freedom, and not only has the gospel set us free from guilt through the blood of Christ, it also guarantees us a future redemption when our Redeemer returns.
